First make a new layer and name it "Boots". Make a black outline (make sure it's true black) around the outline of the foot, and up the legs. At the top of the legs make the boot a little larger than the leg as shown. Also, if you want platforms on the boot (what's a good boot without platforms?), draw a line down from the foot and then make a platform outline. Also, make a line following the contour across the top of the foot that separates the toe and the foot of the boot.

Next, fill the boot in with a color like "#2D2D2D". Just something that's a very dark grey, but not quite black, otherwise it won't shade properly.

Set your burn tool so it's about 3-5 pixels wide and about 30% opaque (nearly transparent) and burn along all the black lines you made earlier. Then take the dodge tool set the same way and dodge the areas you didn't burn.

Now, set the dodge tool a little bit higher (around 40%) and dodge the areas where there would be a lot of shiney-ness.

After that you can add laces or buckles or whatever you want!

Here's how the finished product looks! DO NOT ADOPT THIS DOLL!
